THE FOUNDATIONS OF SUCCESS

BREAKING IN

Once arriving at Goodwood Park after the sales we normally give yearlings a few weeks rest in the paddocks to let the whole experience of the sales soak in.

Once settled in, they come in to the stables to begin their training. This process usually takes 4-6 weeks depending on the trainability of the horse. The focus is to ensure yearlings are prepared to handle everything that they will experience while being pertained and throughout their race preparations.

After being broken in, they are sent for a spell before coming back to commence their pre-training with us.

DEVELOPING BASE FITNESS

PRE- TRAINING

Our main goal with pre-training is to develop a horse’s fitness base prior to commencing a racing campaign.

Under the care of Marty Leacy, each horse is given an individual pre-training plan which is managed over their stay to ensure every opportunity for success when race day arrives.

Our pre-training programmes are catered to the specific needs of each horse. Programs can include:

Teaching balance and responsiveness through dressage training
Improving their fitness on the farms lane ways and horse walker
Engaging their brain with pole work, practice in the barriers
Gaining some more fitness on the cantering track

SPELLING

When booking your horse into Goodwood Park, you have the option of choosing between a single or shared paddock. As the safety of your horse is paramount, upon arrival to Goodwood Park your horse will be placed into a quarantine paddock, where a visual inspection, client video and worming will take place before it is taken to its paddock.
